Microsoft Excel file that is not platform specific
XLS (and its newer sibling XLSX) is a spreadsheet format that provides a familiar, tabular approach for managing translations. In GL Strings, XLS files offer a flexible way to import and export translation data for bulk editing and offline processing.
Structure:
Header Row: The first row typically defines the columns—commonly including fields such as Key, Source, Target, Context, Description, and Status.
Data Rows: Each subsequent row represents one translation entry. For projects with multiple languages, each language can be assigned its own column.
Delimiters & Data Organization:
Unlike plain text formats, XLS files preserve cell formatting and allow you to organize data into multiple sheets if needed.
Custom columns can be added to handle additional metadata, such as synonyms, comments, or tags.
