How to reject translations to ensure top quality software localization

In software localization, ensuring high-quality translations is essential to deliver a seamless user experience across all markets and languages. However, not all translations make the cut during the translation review process. Some translations may need to be rejected. This typically occurs when a translation is unsuitable due to issues around context, grammar errors, cultural mismatches, or technical problems. These rejections are an important part of maintaining consistency, readability, and brand alignment.

During the localization process, TransPerfect's translations services always carry out a review step. However, some of our customers may ask their market reviewers to perform another review round in GL Strings afterwards. In this post, we’ll show you how to reject translations, provide feedback, and send the content back to TransPerfect's translation services.

How to report translation issues

  1. Search for the translation in the editor
    • use the advanced search options to search by ID, source, or target
  2. Click the status indicator and select a status of "Rejected"
    • you can leave a comment here with any additional details by clicking Comments & More
  3. Once you have set the Rejected status on all translations with issues, navigate back to the project page and click Order Translations
  4. On the order page, select All with Rejected from the string selection criteria
  5. In the order brief section, provide feedback on what/how the translation(s) need to be changed (too long, improper case, formal vs informal voice, etc.)
  6. Click Request Quote

Bulk status update

If you have a large number of translations with issues, you can update the status in bulk instead of individually.

  1. Search for the translation(s) in the editor
  2. Mark the checkboxes for the translations that should be rejected
  3. Click Status then select Rejected

Translations that are too long

If translations are too long based on the space available, you have the option to set a max character length for linguists to reference while translating.

TransPerfect's translation services always make sure to follow character restrictions requested by our customers. However, if the max length is updated after the translation process has been started, or if any translations exceed that maximum length, users can ask TransPerfect to review these strings again:

  1. Navigate to the project page and click Order Translations
  2. On the order page, select All with translations exceeding Max Length from the string selection criteria
  3. Click Request Quote
